Fitness Challenge

Hello internet friends!

About a week ago I had a CATS Bootcamp which was basically just spending the day with the theatre company doing workshops. I did a 90 minute vocal workshop, 90 minutes of costume fitting and creating my character (my cat is named Ragamuffin), 90 minutes of learning the makeup, and a 90 minute choreography workshop. Today I mainly wanted to tell you about the choreography workshop.

So in my "tribe" of about 15 people (group I will rehearse with because there's over 800 people in the cast...) left the freezing air-conditioned vocal room with relief and looked forward to warming up in the choreography session! Apart from learning a snippet of a dance for the show, we were taught how to move and interact as a cat - which was fun getting back into acting because I have missed it so much! But to get to the point - the most interesting part of this session was learning about how to be a musical theatre performer in terms of health and fitness. We were lec…

"Mild Self-Diagnosed Depression"

Hello my dear internet friends,

In the first semester of university, I really wasn’t sure if I wanted to stick with my course or not. I was not enjoying it and it was a lot more hard work than I expected. I came to uni with the expectation that a full-time course didn’t really mean full-time. That probably does apply to some courses but Occupational Therapy is certainly no easy feat. I’m at uni everyday, all day and study when I get home.

Anyway, what came along with not enjoying uni, was what I call ‘mild self-diagnosed depression’. For perhaps a month or two I was sad about everything. I had no motivation and often came home from uni crying because I thought that doing OT was something that I was certain about and I began to question that.

So for this post, I am going to share snippets of a diary entry I wrote when I was going through that rough patch in 2013 in the hope that if you are feeling the same way, you can know that I got through it and now I am loving university.

It gets b…

Goodbye 2013 - It's Been Real.

Hello internet friends,
I know, I know - it’s almost halfway through the first month of 2014 so this post is long overdue...Sorry! :D

Seeing as it’s now 2014, I thought I’d share some of the exciting things I’ve experienced in 2013 and finish off with some New Year’s resolutions for 2014.

The past year has been one of many firsts. After finishing school in 2012, I started university in 2013, studying a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy. So the first ‘high’ of 2013 I can think of would be getting accepted into my first preference course at university.

In January I went to Thailand with a christian aid agency, Compassion, to visit our church partner and travel around the country, learning and seeing Compassion’s and God’s work. It was such an amazing experience. I met so many amazing people and heard countless incredible stories and saw some things and heard some stories that broke my heart. If you want to read more about my trip, I’ve previously written a blog post on a place that I visi…
